Grettir spring update
05/23/2008

The volunteer members of the Grettir board would like to express a
hearty thank you to all who helped make the past season such a
resounding success!  We made it through the season without any costly
blowups of a major nature and were working forward into the summer by
helping the pool with grant applications to redo the pool liner as
well as designing and installing a solar water heater which will sit
on the roof of the change rooms and heat the pool very inexpensively.
This is where we ran into a snag!
Before we thought about placing such an extensive project onto the
roof of the change rooms, we required some repairs to be completed to
the roof first.  Once we started inspecting the roof we found that the
deeper we looked the uglier it got.  The water damage is far worse
than anyone expected and the roof must be replaced.  The cost of the
project will run into the $50,000 plus range, and the pool will remain
cold for our kids until we can get this major repair completed first.
We have done much brain storming and have come up with fundraising
ideas that we will be using in an attempt to raise as much money as we
can, quickly. First, the “MEGA” 50/50 has proved to be very
successful. This has benefited both the Grettir and the Legion as
well.  Lundar’s own little lotto has also paid off in a big way to the
three local residents who have taken thousands of dollars home in our
first three monthly draws.  If you see a “MEGA” 50/50 box at any of
the supporting businesses, and you want to help get our kids swimming
again, buy a ticket, and have fun at the same time!  If you have
relatives or friends who have roots in Lundar and want to contribute
to their old home town, you can help them help us by spreading the
word about our yearly subscriptions to the draw.  If they make a
cheque payable to the “Grettir  mega 50/50” for the amount of $110.00
and include address and phone number, mail it to Grettir, box 334,
Lundar, R0C1Y0, we will include them in 12 monthly draws and save them
$10.00 in the process!
Another idea we are currently acting on is the building of a
donation board in the arena and offering plaques which will be placed
on the board and a TAX DEDUCTABLE receipt given for each.  If you want
to support your arena, or dedicate a plaque in the name of a friend or
loved one, or a memorial plaque dedicated to a loved one who has
passed on, we offer several options:
Bronze, for donations ranging from $100.00 to $499.00.
Silver, for donations ranging from $500.00 to $999.00.
Gold, for donations from $1000.00 to $4999.00.
Platinum, for donations from $5000.00 and up.
Again, all plaques are tax deductable and go to a great cause.  Please
pass the word along and help us help the kids whose lives are shaped
by the facilities YOU support.   Send your cheque to Grettir co/op,
box 334, Lundar, Mb, R0C1Y0.

Sincerely,

Glen Mathews,
President,
Grettir co/op.
